Submit a Book Review, short story, poem or joke!

At the end of every episode of Kids Ask Authors, we hope to feature kids! We hope this audio “gallery” of kids’ work inspires everyone to keep writing. So please send us an audio recording of your kid’s book review, very short story (please no more than 1 minute long), poem or joke and we will try to feature it on the show. You can hear some example audio clips HERE.

If you would like to send an audio recording of your child reviewing a book or sharing a poem, short story or joke, send it to us as a voice message with our speakpipe app! Send an image of a completed permission form to Alex at kidsaskauthors@gmail.com and then record! Yes, here on your own computer! Just hit the button below and record! Please note that by sending us a recording you are granting us permission to use that recording on the podcast.

Please remember to send a completed permission form to Alex at kidsaskauthors@gmail.com.

Here is a sample script to follow for book reviews. It may work best if the child fills in the form and then reads it into the phone while recording. Tip: We have found that it works best when the child speaks directly into the phone at a slower and louder voice than usual.

“The book I would like to talk about is ____________(title and author/illustrator). This book is about _______(brief 1 or 2 sentence summary). I liked this book because _______(brief 1 or 2 sentence description).”

  • If your child want to submit a joke or poem, please have the child say, “Here is my poem/joke: ____”

  • If your child want to submit a very short story,  please have the child say, “Here is my story: ____. Please make sure the recording is no longer than 1 minute long. We reserve the right to edit these shorter for our time restraints.

If you prefer to make your own audio recording, simply just record your child using the voice memo app of a smart phone and e-mail the recording and permission slip to Alex at kidsaskauthors@gmail.com.

Listen to some of our example audio clips for even more guidance! We cannot promise to use everything that is sent, but we will try very hard!
